I Just Work Here
A short-but-funny interview with Jorge Garcia is over at the NY Post...

Asked what he thinks about the show's ratings, Garcia says he's glad to just be an employee: "Of course, we talk about the ratings on the set, but when they change something on this show, they change a lot of things. So it's not like we can point to one thing and say this isn't working," he says. "But I rest assured in knowing that my job on this show is just a portion of the whole. I'm not in charge of anything else and I'm not worried about it."Link: BEACH BLANKET BINGO By PAIGE ALBINIAK - Tv - New York Post Online Edition

We're on a Mission From God
I keep hearing more and more good things about "Tricia Tanaka is Dead," and that's a relief. Better than hearing about how "lost" things are. >_<
Of course there'll be more questions asked this time no doubt. Like "How do you keep beer cans from exploding after X number of years in the jungle heat?"

Hope is actually the theme of this week's episode. In "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead," Jorge Garcia's Hurley, upon discovering a car inside the jungle, flashes back to the midst of his bad run of post-Lotto luck. (A Chongless Cheech Marin guest-stars as Hugo's pop, and there is a classic "WTF?" Lost moment as Ms. Tanaka's fate is sealed.) It could be argued that it is a critical episode for the series, covering the reunion of everyone (minus Jack) at the base camp as Kate and Sawyer find their way back home. For eight or nine episodes now, Lost has split its time between "Others Island" and (to a much lesser degree) the happenings of the original castaways. Now, the band is back together, as Elwood Blues might say. But is there that same magic? I'm getting to that.Personally I think it'll be a nice break from all the Jack/Kate/Sawyer heaviness that's been there lately. Kind of an "intermission" while we get set to return to business on the main island.

Watch That First Step...
...it's a lulu! Oh wait thats just the set-dog!
Where the hell is Vincent anyway? He's been conspicuously absent lately.

It wasn't always that way. A rule prohibiting animals on the set inspired Bender to add Lulu to the show's canine cast, where she joins yellow Labrador retriever "Vincent," a pet who survives the plane crash on the island.Wonder what Vincent has to say about it. Maybe we should contact the DHARMA dog division (and of course the name escapes me, hey it's still early!)
As if having access to all the show's secrets and being spoiled by everyone on set isn't enough, Lulu also is scheduled to make an appearance in one of this season's upcoming episodes. Which one? Bender won't say.

"Three Mysteries" Backlash?
Yeah sure I was a little miffed, but I don't think I was as P-O'd as some of these folks! If anyone really thought they were going to drop three big atom-bomb secret revelations... well.

In an e-mail statement, ABC Entertainmentâ??s marketing chiefs Mike Benson and Marla Provencio maintained that the "show delivered the answers to the three questions that were posed in the promo, which we believe are questions on our viewers minds. And, marketing is still marketing I guess. :) I doubt we'll get shown any real answers until near the end of the thing. Or unless they go all "X-Files" and throw a movie out there to seal it up (and then run two or three extra seasons without one of the main characters :p )"We have the utmost respect for Lost viewers," they added. "Our intention is never to alienate, only to entice."

More Backstory Info
Scifi lets us in on some of the upcoming backstory details, including a bit about an upcoming Locke episode...

The writers added that there is more story coming for Locke, theI think Locke is one of, if not the most interesting and important characters on the show. Hopefully this won't be just yet-another "Locke believes in something" episode, because we've explored that facet of his character to death. Lets look a little different direction!
troubled character played by Terry O'Quinn, who was in a wheelchair when he crashed onto the series' mysterious island. Why? "I don't want to give away anything, and I can't give away anything," Horowitz said with a laugh. "I value my job. But I will say that that episode, it's been a long time coming. It will create some new story paths for the audience to be interested in Locke. And we fully hope the question in everyone's head is answered, and they're all very happy with the answer and excited by it. But we're excited, because it has opened up some new things with that character that we hope you guys will like."

LOST: "Stranger in a Strange Land" [SPOILERS]
"Stranger in a Strange Land", yet another "Jack" episode, has come and gone. You know, I didn't much care for this episode, for a couple of reasons. The first and biggest, was they hyped this up as "answering three of the big mysteries of LOST" and, well, I guess I must've missed that part. Sure we got a couple of little answers and a couple of "almost" answers... but I don't think there were any really big revelations here. Secondly, I don't think the "flashback" this time around really gave us any real insight into Jack's character. Sorry, just didn't see it. It seemed to be solely focused on explaining his tattoo, and even then only part of it.... read on, spoilage as usual.

A Quartet of LOST Theories
Mainly having to do with last weeks episode, "Flashes Before Your Eyes", Doc Jensen puts forth four of the latest theories that have been flying around.
The summary:
The "estimated chance of accuracy" bits are kind of amusing. *Never tell me the odds!!*

The summary:
- Desmond never really traveled back in time
- He didn't travel back, but he's been brainwashed to think he had
- He really did travel through time
- Desmond is God (quick somebody paint it on a fence)

Trapped Inside This Prison, LOST and Far From Home
Up the irons!!
Oh, well, apart from being a (very excellent) track on the (most excellent) '86 Iron Maiden Album Somewhere in Time, (WHAT? hmm...another "coincidence" perhaps? Check out the track titles on that record!).... Stranger in a Strange Land was also a (most excellent) novel written by the (also most excellent) Robert A. Heinlein.
So, what? Well, bear with me here.
Now, I'll admit that yes, I did read "Stranger", but it was about the same time as I bought that album, soon after its release.... So I'll also admit to forgetting nearly 99% of it. Thank you Wikipedia for the instant memory! (And thank you high school for the forgetting part!)
"Stranger" is the story of Valentine Michael Smith and his "Tarzan-brought-home"-style integration back into Earth society. See, Valentine has been raised by Martians (on Mars no less) and is completely oblivious to "Earthian" culture. He got there because of a manned mission to Mars which never returned (Dharma anyone?) and was only found after a second mission.
Of course part of Smith's unique nature is his psychic powers, along with a "childlike naivete" (thanks wiki!) His starting of a philosophy of gaining complete understanding of everything (aka 'grokking')... Now, I'm wondering....
...Given that this episode is supposed to revolve at least in part around the children, current and possibly past who may have spent their entire lives on this island (*cough* Ben, Alex and the rest), and that they're only now being exposed to a different "culture" (the castaways).... Are we trying to draw a not-so-subtle parallel here? Especially considering Valentine's psychic and other strange abilities.
Or, alternately this (from the wiki article)
Or maybe its just a cool title that C&D felt like ripping off. Or they dig Maiden that much! (Eddie Lives!)
Just some amateur ramblings to consider. Feel free to object hysterically. I think maybe I do already!

In short, he is a man besieged on all sides by those who wish to use him to further their own ends.Like our hero, Jack? Juliet needs him to kill Jack, Ben needs him to save his life...argh. Will the madness never end?!

In The Words Of Hurley...
"DUDE!!!!"
(Warning, possible spoilers lie ahead, maybe. possibly)
E! Online's (not hard on the eyes) Kristin drops us this interview with the big C&D (Carlton and Damon) and drop a lot of big juicy hints at whats to come....
...one of the big ones is this:
According to C&D the "B-52s" are still yet to come.
Couldn't we maybe just get attacked by an AC-130 here at somepoint? Pleeeeez!?

...one of the big ones is this:
So bye-bye to the Others?I wonder... could we be returning to that big four-toed statue-foot we caught a glimpse of in "Live Together Die Alone?" Can't imagine what else they'd mean when you put Sayid and "mythology" together. Nothing else is coming to mind on that.
D.L.:
No, not at all. Next's week's episode, Jack is still back on Alcatrazâ??he has just finished the surgery. And we have not seen the ramifications of Juliet shooting Pickett or any of that stuff. So, we
have to pick up that story threadâ??and understand what happened to Sawyer, Kate, and Karlâ??and once that's done, as Carlton said, it's time to have some fun with Hurley, and do a little Claire story and have some Sayid action.
C.C.: The Sayid episode answers a lot of mythological questions. That's a good one. That's coming up in about four weeks.

Charlie Can't Die
Hannah Tucker over at EW.com writes us this sorta-deep article on Desmond's time-travelling adventures...
Nice touch examining the Hume name connection here...
Thoughts? Is Charlie really that connected to the overall arch or could he just up and fall off a cliff one day?

Nice touch examining the Hume name connection here...
Thanks to a quick Wikipedia refresher course on philosopher David Hume, however, it all makes sense. Kinda. Basically, Hume's theory of compatibilism posits that free will and determinism both exist, and that what we do with our lives is essentially the result of these two concepts butting against each other. In other words, things are going all Sophie's World on us: Desmond Hume is living one of David Hume's theories.I think she's right that from the show's point of view, Charlie seems pretty indispensible, but there's only one problem with that. It hasn't stopped them before. I was thinking that they would play Locke and Eko off of each other for a lot longer before Eko left us.
Thoughts? Is Charlie really that connected to the overall arch or could he just up and fall off a cliff one day?
