I'll Have My Noodles Well Done, Please

Doc Jensen gives us his take on "Catch-22", and totally blew me away with this little tidbit of Biblical scholar trivia....
The noodle cooker: Ruth and Naomi In ''Catch 22,'' the characters Ruth and Naomi have nothing to do with each other. But in The Bible, they are the stars of the Book of Ruth. Well, it just so happens that the book right before Ruth is the Book of Judges. The very last story in the Book of Judges is the story of a war among the tribes of Israel. The bad guy in this story: the Tribe of Benjamin. The war started over a murder that the other tribes believed needed to be avenged; it ended with the near-obliteration (''The Purge,'' perhaps?) of the Benjaminites. Here's where it gets creepy: In the aftermath, the people of Israel felt badly about wiping out Benjamin's people. So they decided to repopulate his tribe by forcing the women from another city to join the tribe of Benjamin. You know: to make babies and stuff.
Awwww, man.  That's just good.  Very.

I'd also comment, that since Doc's never seen "Bridge on the River Kwai" (dude! See it!)

It's about a group of British held prisoner by the Japanese, and who band together and find hope and "a purpose" in properly building a railroad bridge for a woefully inept Japanese officer in charge of the operation.  You could almost draw a parallel between this and Locke's mission to man the hatch.

The kicker, at the end, the mission to rescue them ends up blowing up the bridge they've worked so hard on, and are so proud of, and kills the British prisoners' leader.

But not before he realizes the madness of what he and his gang have done, and ends up pushing the handle on the detonator himself, further closing the parallel to Locke's blowing up the hatch.

Pure genius.

ok, this is completely unrelated...or is it?
In anime news, Lost's Matthew Fox is vying to play Racer X in the Wachowski brothers' (of Matrix fame) live action remake of Speed Racer. Racer X is secretly Speed Racer's long lost brother. Seems Fox likes playing secret brothers......
