LOST: Eggtown [ANALYSIS]

Yawn.  Where was I? Oh, yeah, Eggtown.  Well, we find out who another of the Oceanic Six is.  I think.  A couple more juicy bits that might play out down the road, and a bit of light reading....

Mind Games

So what was up with Charlotte and Faraday playing memory games with the cards?  Or was it ESP games?  That was a curious little interlude, and might suggest that they know something about "the island" and its mystical powers, not just the scientific weirdness.

3.2 Million

Like Ben said, why 3.2 million? Why not 3.3?  veiled attempt at slipping a '23' in there? (flip it around...)  Does this mean Miles will turn on the rest of his crew to cover it up?  Whats up, guys?

Light Reading

Locke pulls a copy of Philip K. Dick's VALIS off the shelf to give to Ben.  "I've read it already," he says.

VALIS, stands for Vast Active Living Intelligence System, and according to Wikipedia, the book deals with the dual personalites of himself, in an autobiographical sense, and a man named "Horselover Fat" (er, ok) who becomes obsessed with different religions and philosophies, in the search to solve the world's (and his own) problems.  Sound familiar?

I've not read any of the VALIS trilogy, but according to the big W, other plot points include:
  • Dick's son is saved from a would-be fatal condition that was revealed, due to the intervention of VALIS.
  • Some sort of temporal "prison" which defines and shapes the fate of things to come.  You can't escape it.
Interesting connections.

You've also got Sawyer reading something, but I couldn't tell what it was!  Man I hate getting interrupted during LOST and then forgetting to go back and check the details!

Xanadu

On a lighter note, we find Hurley popping a VHS of the 1980 movie, Xanadu into the player.  Historically, Xanadu was a city in China or Mongolia or something, but became known for its splendor and opulence.  A little in-joke for the losties holed up at the barracks?

Oceanic Five

OK, so I think Aaron is now officially one of the six.  I think.  A little bit of a head scratcher there.  So why is he with Kate?  And why doesn't Jack want anything to do with him?

You also have to wonder how this will tie back to the psyhic's dread over his reading of Claire and her son.  If he turns out to be a little Damien or something that just would be lame.

Eight is Enough?

In the fabricated story, which apparently all of the Oceanic Six are sticking to, Eight of them survived the crash.  Two of them died on the island.  Is it safe to assume that they're saying Claire is one of them?

Apart from the Aaron bombshell, and maybe the 'original eight' revelation, I still have to say this was a mere ho-hum of an episode.  Here's hoping that the helicopter ride next week will prove to be a little more interesting.

And I still don't get where the title of this show comes from. Ben's breakfast?

Did anyone else think Kate's mom comment "the Dr's having been telling me I have 6 months to live for the last 4 year" might be an allusion to more time passing on the outside than on the island?

Do you think Jack found out that Aaron is his nephew?? That he and Claire have the same father? Why else would he not want to see Aaron...

OH MAN! :-) I should have thought of that. Makes perfect sense, though. Wonder why he wouldn't want anything to do with him though?

I think the title definately refers to Ben's breakfast because Locke said they were the last two eggs. He also told Kate that he had just killed a chicken when she came to talk to him, I guess meaning that there would definately not be any more eggs!

Just because Kate's baby is named Aaron doesn't have to mean that it is THAT Aaron...it might be Kate and Sawyer's baby (which might explain their conversation about pregancy) named in honor of the Aaron that did not make it off the island...that would explain Jack's refusal to see the baby.
