LOST: The Lie [RECAP]
Continuing the story in this two-part event is "The Lie," which we all know (don't you?) refers to the story the Ocean Six fabricated in order to protect the island from Charles Widmore.
Most of the episode centers on Hurley, and his dealing with the guilt of leaving everyone behind, and the events that have occurred in his life since he's left. Of course we also get a peek back to the island, where (as usual) strange events are occurring.
The wide world of Benjamin Linus and the Others... off the island also start to take a curious twist, with a real WTF moment at the end...
...well, read on for the recap.
The stories of Ben, Jack, Hurley, and Sayid off the island, three years into the future (with a touch of Kate and Sun) are more or less intertwined, but we'll summarize that story last.

The stories of Ben, Jack, Hurley, and Sayid off the island, three years into the future (with a touch of Kate and Sun) are more or less intertwined, but we'll summarize that story last.
Firstly, we have to go back to the island, where and when we're not exactly sure, but things are definitely getting stranger.
Bernard is trying to start a fire, and the remaining losties are getting weirded out, especially Neil, today's red shirt candidate. The lot is arguing and generally freaking out, and Sawyer gets Neil's shirt. Faraday returns, he needs to calculate a new bearing, to find out when they are, so that maybe they can escape the island, sort of like the freighter could only find the island on that 305 bearing. Miles goes off to look for food.
Later that night, they're still trying to build a fire. Vincent (finally! hooray for Vincent!) is with them. Charlotte and Faraday are off by themselves talking. She can't seem to shake a headache, and couldn't remember her mother's maiden name. Faraday is obviously trying to hide something, but Charlotte calls him on it.
Saving Faraday is Miles, who comes out of the jungle with a boar over his shoulders. He found it in the jungle that way, and according to him has only been dead three hours. (The hog Sawyer shot? Someone else?)
When Miles asks if anyone has a knife, Neil bugs out, "We can't even get fire!!" And he takes a flaming arrow in the chest. A barrage of flaming arrows rains down on them, and they scatter into the jungle. A few of the losties are killed. Sawyer and Juliet somehow get separated from the rest of the group.
Running from the attack, Sawyer gets a stick through his foot. They hear something, and see a man with a gun on patrol or something. They are pulled from their hiding place by men in what look like DHARMA jumpsuits. "What are you doing on our island?!"
One of them threatens to cut off Juliet's hands if they don't come clean. Just as he raises the blade, he goes down, and another one goes down, a victim of a thrown knife.
"James. Juliet. Nice to see you." Locke says as he limps out of the bush.
In a move mirroring the last episode, a facelss man goes to a fridge, and grabs a couple of beers from it. "Dude they'll find out!" It's Jack, and the rest of the Oceanic Six, plus Frank, Desmond, and Penny, on board the Searcher just after their rescue. They all agree that they need to stick to their story to protect the island from Widmore. Hurley doesn't like the idea, and Sayid agrees with Jack. "I'm going to remember this," Hurley tells Sayid, "Someday you're going to need my help, and you're not getting it."
Flash forward three years again, to Hurley frantically driving Sayid away from the scene of the hotel killing. He's all over the road, trying to wake Sayid when he runs over a mailbox. Immediately in his rearview mirror he sees some red-and-blues, and pulls over. The officer approaches. "OKOK, just stay calm."
"What the hell were you thinking?" It's Ana Lucia. "What if I were real? You need to pull it together! You've got a lot of work to do. Do not get arrested. Oh, yeah, Libby says hi."
He stops at a gas station outside of town, borrows some money from Sayid's wallet and buys himself a 'I heart Shihtzus' t-shirt. The clerk recognizes him as one of the O6, but he escapes cleanly.
As he's pulling out of the lot, Kate pulls in. She picks up her phone and nearly calls Jack, but changes her mind. The phone rings, with an unknown number. "I can't believe its you. I'll meet you in a half hour."
Ben and Jack are holed up in a hotel. Ben is removing something from the air grate, and puts it in his bag before Jack sees it. Jack rummages through his clothes looking for his pills, which Ben has flushed. "I need to move John's casket somewhere safe." "Safe? He's dead isn't he?" "I'll see you in six hours."
Hurley's dad is at the house, making a turkey, tomato, and caviar sandwich. (er, yum?
) Hurley shows up with Sayid over his shoulders. "Are you wanted again?" Hurley explains what's going on and gets Dad to play along. The police show up and dad covers for him. Sayid needs a doctor, and Hurley knows what to do.
Kate goes to a high rise building, and meets none other than Sun (you could have guessed that.) Kate tells Sun about the lawyers. Sun doesn't think its Widmore, because they weren't interested in exposing the lie. Sun almost seems to blame Kate for Jin's death, but says otherwise. "So how's Jack?" Kate gets a puzzled look.
Ben enters a butcher shop, and grabs ticket number '342' from the roll. "Hello, Ben." The woman behind the counter seems to know him. He asks her to keep something safe. "Is it what I think it is?" "He's with us," Ben says, talking about Jack. "Keep him safe, Jill, if you don't everything we're about to do won't matter."
Back at Hurley's, his mom shows up, and finds Sayid on the couch. Hurley gets his dad to take Sayid in the Land Rover(?)... to find Jack, which he does.
He warns Jack to stay away from Hurley, and Jack takes Sayid to the hospital, but not before calling Ben about it, who doesn't seem thrilled with the turn of events.
At the house, Hurley's guilt finally becomes too much, and he spills the real story of the island to his mother, who says she believes him, but doesn't understand it.
Jack manages to revive Sayid at the hospital, who nearly strangles Jack when he wakes up. "Does anyone else know Hurley is at home?"
Yes, Jack has told Ben about it, and he shows up at Hurley's house. He tries to talk Hurley into going with him, but rather than do what Ben says, he follows Sayid's earlier advice, and does the exact opposite. (Much to the dismay of Ana Lucia's vision) he runs outside and turns himself in, giving an evil eye towards Ben. "I killed them all! Just get me away from here!"
We end the episode watching a hooded figure scribbling out complex equations on a blackboard, making hurried changes. A pendulum is swinging over another blackboard, scribing out lines on a map which seem to be centering around something. A computer and racks of electronic equipment which look remarkably similar to the equipment in the Swan Hatch are nearby. The computer looks to be searching on a map for the location of something.
The figure exits through a hatch-like bulkhead, and emerges up a flight of stairs into what looks like a monastery or a church. Ben is there, lighting candles.
"Any luck?" "Yes." "Really?" "What about you?" "I'm having some difficulty." "You only have 70 hours."
"What? I need more than that!" "What you need is irrelevant." "What happens if I can't get them all to come back?"
"Then God help us all." The figure is revealed to be none other than (wait for it) Mrs. Hawking, the mysterious time-lord personality who visited Desmond on one of his flashback trips....
