LOST: Jughead [Analysis]
This one's going to be chock full of spoilers, so you've been warned. Not only are we introduced to a whole new group of folks on the island, but a couple of new faces as well. Where's all of this fit in? God (and Carlton and Damon ) only knows!
Charlie Hume?
So Penny and Desmond have a baby. What? Did I miss something? And they name him Charlie, presumably after Charlie Pace. But I can only imagine the argument surrounding that one. "But my evil father's name is Charles! Our arch-enemy!" "Yeah, I know! What a coincidence!"
Or is it? Things that make you go, hmmmmmmm.....
Teresa Spencer
OK, so Faraday experimented on the girl as well. Presumably he put her into a state similar to what Desmond had been experiencing, along with Minkowski back on the ship. Only they've somehow managed to keep her alive. How's she going to fit in with this? Who knows! (I'm starting to hate saying that!)
Faraday's Mum
Yeah so we've pretty much established that Mrs. Hawking == Faraday's Mother. She's in LA, Ben and Jack are in LA... I wonder if she's expecting Desmond, though, and why she won't be pleased to see him. Does Widmore know about their encounter back at the jewelry shop? I wonder....
Charles Widmore, the prequel
So. (chirp chirp chirp) Widmore was on the island in '54, and he was an Other. The plot thickens. How did he get there, and more important, how (and why) did he *leave*?
Cunningham
OK, so if Alpert killed all of the soldiers, as he claimed, how could "Cunningham" still be wearing his own uniform? They called him by name, which was also sewn on his shirt. Hmmm. Is Alpert lying to us, or just telling the truth from his own "point of view", and Cunningham turned over to the Others?
Locke and Alpert
No real surprises there. Jacob is still there and reigning supreme in 1954, that's clear. Alpert seems to be in charge, natch, and like he said last time, he didn't recognize John at all.
Interesting question/paradox: Did the compass stay with John when they moved, lying on the ground somewhere, or did it go with Alpert?
Jughead
Ah, the big WTF. WTF is the US military doing testing H-bombs on our island? (And in very poorly made stands I might add!!) That bomb looked like it'd been there a while. Which means that the soldiers Miles "saw" must've come looking for it? Who names a bomb "Jughead" anyway, LOL.
Faraday
Two things with Faraday:
1) He knew this bomb would be here, and what was wrong with it, and how to fix it. Note his words when he found out about it. "Render it inert." Not "I'll have to see what's wrong with it and let you know." But he knows beforehand what the deal is. Interesting. I can't help but wonder where the bomb is buried on the island, either. It could also explain the "sickness" and the "vaccine" from previous seasons, maybe the bomb leak was causing widespread radiation poisoning or something? Another hmmmm.....
2) He knows what's going on with Charlotte, and obvioiusly it's related to what happened to Ms. Spencer. Wonder if the whole, "I love you" bit was an attempt to give her a "constant" or something?
Latin
Nice touch with the Latin. Combine this with the columns of "the temple" and the statue, and some of the Station imagery... hmmm.....
Ellie
Did anyone else think for a second, "holy crap, it's a young Danielle Rousseau?" Until her accent came out, that is. That would have been something. Totally contradicting past facts, but something.

The button needed to be pushed, but radiation poisoning would kill anyone that stayed there.
rousseau had only been on the island for about 16 years in 2004.
Jughead is the actual name for a U.S. Hydrogen bomb
Here is the Wiki entry referring to the Jughead H-Bomb!!

re: Rousseau... I said 'almost', until her accent gave her away. And then definitely when the time frame became apparent...
