Sheesh, I don't even know how to intro this without giving it all away. One of the best episodes in a long long time, by my estimation, so many things happening.
I could try and recap this in great detail, but I will keep it short, or at least I will try. I'll save the detailed stuff for the analyzerization post...
I WishSo, we start off finding Jack opening his eyes in the jungle, staring up at a stand of bamboo, dressed in a suit. Are we back at day one again? No, not this time. He gets up and looks at a scrap of paper with the words "I wish" written on it. He hears some shouting, and finds Hurley trying to stay afloat in the lagoon atop a guitar case. Kate is unconscious on the rocks nearby.
It looks like they're back.
46 Hours EarlierReplaying the events of last time, we find Jack, Ben, Sun, and Desmond in front of Eloise Hawking. She leads them down into the basement of the church, which looks strangely like one of the DHARMA stations, with the wires and lights and concrete....
...because it is. A large bulkhead door, with a DHARMA logo of what looks like a lantern (hinthint) is in front of them. She opens it, and they find themselves in the pendulum room, with all the DHARMA equipment.
(takes deep breath) So this is "The Lamppost" station, which DHARMA used to find the island in the first place. It's built over a pocket of energy yadda yadda yadda, they looked for the island where it was going to be blah blah windows of time perapera get on Ajira flight 316 and recreate the circumstances around the first crash. (another deep breath)
Desmond delivers his message about Faraday, and in a huff storms off, warning everyone else about her. Hawking warns him that the island isn't done with him.
She takes Jack aside and gives him an envelope with his name on it. She says its Locke's suicide note, and that Locke is taking the place of his father on this trip, and needs something of his father's to make it complete...
He leaves the office, and finds Ben kneeling in a pew. Ben gives him a speech about Doubting Thomases and leaps of faith, and takes off to visit "an old friend."
So Jack goes off to see his grandfather in a nursing home, seems he's been a bad boy lately. He gets a pair of his father's shoes from him. He goes home, finds one of his stashed bottles and starts to pour a drink. He hears something, and finds a distraught Kate lying on the bed. Sans Aaron. "Don't ever ask me about Aaron again." And, well, one thing leads to another, and you know the rest.
The next morning Jack gets a phone call from a distraught and bloodied Ben, who asks him to go pick up Locke from the butcher shop. He goes there, switches out Locke's shoes, and puts the still unread note back in Locke's jacket.
Moving on, Jack is at the Ajira airlines ticket counter, in an eerily familiar scene where he's explaining his cargo. He sees Kate, then Sun, and they notice Sayid being escorted around security in handcuffs by a woman. Hurley is also there, having bought out 78 seats so nobody else could use them. Jack isn't sure why he's there, as apparently they didn't tell him what was going on(?) Of course Ben shows up, arm in a sling.
There's a way-too-curious middle-eastern looking guy there, who says something to Jack as he's leaving the counter. This guy is also on the plane, and I don't think we've seen the last of him.
The plane takes off, and after some time, the captain comes on the loudspeaker. The voice is familiar, and eventually introduces himself as Frank Lapidus. Jack asks to see him, Frank exits the cockpit, notices the rest of the gang, and says, "We're not going to Guam, are we?"
Ben is reading Ulysses by James Joyce (ick, did that once. Once.) Jack tells Ben about the note, and Ben leaves him alone to read it.
"I wish you had believed me. -JL"
Just then the plane starts to shake and rumble, alarms start going off. Everyone rushes to put their seatbelts on, and...
...
FLASH...
Back to Jack waking up in the bamboo stand. Repeat the events of before, Kate wakes up. The three of them wonder where Sayid and Ben are.
They hear something. It's music, coming from somewhere. It gets louder, and suddenly a van, no
the van comes out of the jungle on the road overlooking the lagoon. It looks a sight newer than they left it. A man in a fresh DHARMA jumpsuit with a rifle gets out and points it at them, a look of disbelief on his face.
It's Jin.
BONK.
Yeah I left
a lot of the details out. Otherwise I'd be sitting here for the next hour retyping every single word of dialog. I will definitely be watching again next week with the 'enhancements' to see what I missed....
...can I get a big WTF!!??
