Well, moving the plot right along this time, we find out what happened to Sayid, and just what Sun is up to... and unfortunately that's pretty much it. A necessary bit of continuation... read on.
Ajira 316In sort of a flashback, kinda, we revisit the events on the plane, only now from Frank's POV. The light, the big whoosh, and wham, they're suddenly over the island in broad daylight. Frank and his copilot manage to bring the plane down gently (go Frank!) on a makeshift runway on the Hydra island. (hm, look familiar?)
After the crash, the copilot is dead from massive tree-limb intrusion. Frank goes back to check out the damage. Of course the Oceanic six are gone. Not quite, though, as Sun is still here! "Where's everyone else" Frank asks. Ben answers, "gone." "Gone where?" "How would I know?" Ben replies in that Ben-like tone we know and love.
A bit later, Frank gathers the survivors around and gives the obligatory pep talk. Caesar starts asking questions, "where is here?" etc. He's been snooping around already and has spotted the Hydra cages. Ben realizes where they are and starts to sneak off, Sun quietly follows him, only to be discovered. "Where are you going?" "Back to our island. You want to come?"
Frank soon catches up with them, and follows them to the beach, where the canoes are stashed. Frank tries to talk Sun out of going with Ben, but apparently she has other plans, as she cold-cocks him with one of the oars, and she and Frank take off towards the main island.
They arrive at the docks, which are in a pretty bad state of disrepair. Obviously they've arrived later than they left, most likely the full 3 years (just guessing.) They hear something in the brush, and spot some movement. "Probably just an animal." But we know better.
The barracks are also in bad shape, but it appears someone has taken the time to try and board things up. They hear some whispers, and a light comes on inside one of the houses. The door slowly creaks open to reveal a silhouette.
It's Christian/Jacob. Sun asks him if he knows where Jin is. "Follow me." He takes them into another building, which looks like the 'commons' room we've seen before. He goes over the pictures on the walls, until he finds the 1977 edition (I'll get to it!) He shows her the photo, which includes the four we know about already. "I'm sorry," he tells her, "but you have a bit of a journey ahead of you."
Namaste!Meanwhile, back in '77, Sawyer explains to the gang where, and when, they are. Hurley's "Oh.... What?" is priceless. Jin asks where Sun is, and when he finds out nobody knows, hurries off to the Jeep. "If a plane landed, Radzinksi would know." and he drives off.
Sawyer assk them to stay put until he can figure out what to do with them.
At the barracks, Juliet asks Miles where James is. Just then he pulls up and rushes into the house, searching frantically for clothes. He tells Juliet about his discovery and she's suitably shocked, but looking somewhat dismayed. She tells him there's a sub coming in this afternoon....
...switch to Jin, driving up to the Flame station. Inside, a scruffy looking guy is building a model of a dome-like structure and some other rooms. Jin rushes past him and starts messing with stuff, much to Radzinksi's dismay. "Nobody handles the gear except me!" Jin tries to explain what he's doing, but Radzi wont' have any of it, until Jin puts him up against the wall. Radzi broadcasts a message to the other stations, asking if anyone's seen a plane. (Oh, and the Muppet Show is up on one of the monitors... nice!)
Suddenly an alarm goes off. There's an intruder at the fence! Jin grabs a rifle and takes off before Radzi can react, and finds Sayid sneaking about. He asks him where Sun is, and Sayid of course doesn't know. Radzi appears, and Jin pretends to have captured "another hostile."
Juilet comes across Amy and the new baby. She manages to snag the sub's manifest, and asks if they've decided on a name. "Yes, Ethan. [!] When are you and Jim going to have one of these?"
Sawyer comes back to the point and the confused four. He hands them all a change of period clothes, and explains that they're to pretend they're coming in on the sub with the new recruits. "If you do what I say, everything will be fine."
Hurley tries to get the big picture. "So its 1977. And you're all members of DHARMA. You do realize they get wiped out, right?" "I ain't here to play Nostradamus!" He mentions something about Faraday and his theories about what they can and can't do. "He's here?" "Not any more...."
WorkmanThey arrive at the camp just as the other new recruits are being processed. Sawyer tells them to play along, and that he'll take care of everything.
Miles arrives in another van, and sees the four. After the shock, he tells Sawyer about Jin, and that he's captured a hostile.
"James we have a problem." Jin tells him over the radio. "SOB!"
Jack gets his assignment. Workman. Ha! Kate steps up to get hers, and Phil from security doesn't have her on the list. Juliet shows up in the nick of time with "the new list" and takes over. They feign the required introductions....
Sawyer arrives at the flame, and Radzi's already locked up Sayid. "He saw the model for the Swan complex! He could have seen the survey! We should end this right now!" Radzi wants to just shoot him, but Sawyer talks him down.
They pull Sayid out and question him as if he were a 'hostile.' He catches on, and plays along. They plan to take him back to the camp, and Radzi exclaims he will talk to Horace about this.
Phil is herding the recruits when he gets the message about the captive. He orders everyone back 'for security reasons' and the four see why. "I guess we found Sayid." They take him downstairs to a holding cell, and Sawyer says to bring him some food.
Churchill and His BooksLater that night Jack is looking for Sawyer, I mean James' cabin. He asks Phil, who points him in the right direction. Phil is looking mighty suspicious of these new recruits.
Juliet answers the door, and the hug in a short reunion. "We're not supposed to know each other." "I think I'm at the wrong house." "No, come in." "Evenin' doc!" Sawyer pipes up from his easy chair.
"What can I do for you Jack?" Sawyer asks in a smug fashion. Jack of course asks about Sayid, and what he's doing about it. "I had no choice, I had to improvise."
They start to disagree on what is being done. It would seem that Sawyer is enjoying having the upper hand over Jack, blasts him for the choices he made in the past, and tells him "now you're right back where you started." He explains his new methodology, and tells Jack he has to think about what to do next. "Its how I saved your ass today, and how I'll save Sayid's tomorrow. Go home and get some rest." Jack leaves, and Sawyer goes outside to see Kate standing on her porch. There's an awkward little wave as the two see each other.
Paradox TimeBack next to the holding cell, Phil is keeping watch. A familiar young man is there, also, and yes, it's young Ben Linus. He goes to Sayid. "I brought you a sandwich. Are you a hostile?"
"Do you think I am?" "What's your name?" "Sayid." "I'm Ben." Sayid gets a look of shock and understanding, only to smile and say, "It's nice to meet you, Ben."
Bonk. Hmph. Chalk this oneup to moving the plot along indeed. Aside from the appearance of Jacob/Christian to Sun I can't think of much that really stood out. Necessary.
The Good StuffSo lets see what we've got this time.
The RunwayIf memory serves, I'm thinking this was where Sawyer and Kate were sent to work when they were captured at the Hyrda station way back when. It didn't make much sense then, but does now. But there's a bigger question surrounding this which I'll get to last.
Sun, Ben, Christian/JacobOK, so Ben seems to think they can get to
where when Jin is. Another strange DHARMA built device or through Jacob? Does he even have a clue?
So why is Jacob speaking to Sun, and apparently trying to help her get where she needs to go... *if she wasn't taken off the plane in the first place?* Because she didn't bring Ji Yeon back with her? This doesn't make sense to me at all. Is it because she's got a certain amount of the dark side flowing through her at the moment? I really don't know.
Anyone want to lay odds that Locke needs to get involved here?
EthanHar, har. "Yeah, um, sorry but some English drug addict musician is going to empty a cilp into him later."
WorkmanSo. Does this mean that Jack will be working with Ben's dad? I nice changeabout. Although there they go again, bringing daddy issues back into it.
Radzinksi and the SwanSo not only did he wind up in the Swan for an extended period of time, go crazy, draw the door-map, and put his brains all over the ceiling of it, it looks like he designed the thing. Curiouser and curiouser. Wasn't his face also in the infamous "Karl film?"
FaradaySo he's gone? Dead? Just gone? Grrrr, that wasn't fair throwing a bone out like that and leaving it be! :) More interesting is the mention of his theories....
Time Travel Paradoxes / Young Ben / SayidAlright, here's what I was talking about earlier.
First, the runway. It's clear that Ben, being in charge of the "Others" ordered this to be built. *Because he knew they'd need it* Nice, eh?
Furthermore, what's to come of this relationship between Young Ben and Sayid. Would Old Ben have recognized him at that first encounter in the Swan hatch? How much does Old Ben know about Sayid that he would have learned as young ben?
Don't tell me these two time lines aren't connected, with the past affecting the future, if for one simple reason....
The picture. If that has been hanging on the wall the entire time, you'd think somebody would have noticed. "You look familiar..." Or something. Which also leads to the question, if Ben
did recognize them, that means he's known what's going to happen the entire time!
Is anyone else getting confused yet? I sure am.
