LOST: Whatever Happened, Happened

OK... so he's not dead.  Not yet.  And yeah I know I never got last week's up :(  It's coming though.

Skipping the recap. At least not in any great detail.  Really I haven't felt the need to do so lately.  Here's the basics, though.

On the island
Ben's not dead, and needs a real surgeon
Jack won't help out, not this time, he's already done it once
Kate takes it upon herself to help, and her and Juliet come up with the idea to take him to Richard, violating "the truce."
Sawyer helps Kate get past the fence, because he's got a soft spot for kids apparently.

Off the island
Kate has been chums with Cassidy the whole time.  Go figure.
The "whisper" was simply to take care of his daughter.  Again, what were you expecting?
Kate also has spilled the beans about the island and the truth to Cassidy.
She ultimately decides to hand Aaron over to Claire's mum, and spills the truth to her as well (man can she not keep a secret or what?!)
We find out her reason for returning to the island is to reunite Aaron and Claire....

Did I miss anything important?  Oh yeah, Richard takes young Ben into the temple, right into the mouth of Ol' Smokey.

Kate's Loose Lips
WTF?  Will her spilling the story to Cassidy and Claire's mother have any ramifications down the road? I'm betting it will.

Sawyer's decisions
1.  To help Kate.  He's going to get found out, and when he does it won't be pretty.  Will this force the group to take up with Richard and the hostiles?
2.  To jump from the chopper.  Cassidy seems to think the reason was because he didn't want to face things back in "the real world."  She may have been right, as we saw him give a strange look, and not deny it to Kate, and tell her that it wouldn't  have worked out anyway.

Constructing Ben
Most interestingly, at least according to Richard, it may have been Kate, Juliet, and Sawyer's decision to take Ben to Richard that turned him into the monster he became.  Ouch.  Destiny is indeed a fickle bitch.

The Miles and Hurley discussion
Aside from being downright funny, the exchange brought forth a couple of things: 1) that Miles knows more about this time travel stuff than we've been led to believe, and 2) He doesn't have an answer for why Ben didn't appear to recognize Sayid in the Hatch.  Natch.

A question I've wondered myself.  Maybe he did and didn't say anything? I bet we find out.

The Temple
Whoa, pair this up with what happens next week and things get a little interesting, no?

Richard sd. Ben would lose his innocence and not remember anything. So that covers why he doesn't remember Sayid and why (at one pt. in an earlier epi.) He sd. he was born on the island. Which at the time I just thought he was lying. My ? is did you catch the part abt. asking Elle and Charles BEFORE he takes Ben to make sure it is okay w/ them. Richard remarks he doesn't answer to anyone.

Crap! I forgot all about the Charles/Ellie comment by Richard! Yeah, that was a definitely interesting slip.

BUT... he's got to remember something, because he winds up back at dharma, and kills everyone including his dad who was no stranger at that point... so maybe he just won't remember part of it?

So, I think that Ben is eventually schooled on Jack, Kate, and the other losties, so that is how he so easily came by all the info in the files he had on them. He always appeared to have a crazy amount of knowledge about who they were. He may not remember that Saaid shot him, or that Kate dropped him off, but it may be why he sought out Juliette to begin with (through Alpert). Time is definately folding over on itself and it's making me crazy!

IF you go all the way back to season 1, you remember that Ethan and Godwin had a "list". I think it is becoming clear who was on the list that Ben provided, and anyone who died, plus perhaps a few others (Sun?) was not on that list. I think that the list was prepared by Ben an contained the losties who went back in time to Dharma, Sawyer, Jack, Kate, Jin, and the others. This might explain why certain people who returned did not go back in time but remained in the present (John and Sun). JOhn had another purpose with Jacob, but I am still wondering what Sun's part will be.

Ah, "the list." Actually I think you're talking about the list Klugh gives to Michael with the people he's to bring back. Who are:

Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley.

No Sayid? No Jin? Why not?

If you go back to season 3, to the first episode when the plane is seen breaking up over Otherton, it is Ben who orders Ethan and Goodwin to prepare lists of the survivors of 815 and from those lists, it was whittled down who to kidnap. Info about the survivors could have easily been provided by linkup to the mainland via the Flame station. But I do think there is credence to the idea that maybe Ben had selective memories of say Juliet or Jack, and maybe Sayid. After all, it is Ben who plants the suggestion that Sayid is at the core a killer.

I find it really interesting that Sayid believed his destiny was to stop Ben from hurting people and destroying lives; but in the end, he is actually the one responsible for the creation of the 'monster' that will become Ben. By shooting Ben, and Jack refusing to save him-Richard and the temple snuff out the light of innocence in lil' Ben: and replace it with something much darker. Sayid has created his own a self-fulfilling prophesy: with some help from Jack and Kate and Sawyer.

Sawyer's decision to stay was told to Kate long before he jumped from the 'copter..he said 'i got nothin' to go back for' when she asked him why he wanted to stay..he then reminded her all that was waiting for her was a 'pair of handcuffs and a jail cell'. While he was in prison and working with the feds to dupe the embezzler-he told the feds to put his 'commission' in an account for Clementine. Cassidy's anger toward Sawyer sounds more like a woman scorned and still bitter-he did not love her the way she loved him...yes, he conned her: but he did not know about Clementine until after she was born and he was in prison. When he found out-he put aside a probably considerable amount of money for her future: and did what he thought was best for her-stayed away because he knew he was not a good man and would not be a good influence on Clementine. And yes-he was taking the easy way out: still selfish...more reason to stay away from his daughter.

I think Miles knows more about the time issue thing because Faraday likely told him... as we now know he is no longer on the island.

As for the Ellie/Widmore comment, we all know Widmore was the leader of "the others" before... and it only confirms what I thought, that Ellie is Faraday's mom!

I am curious about one thing... in the first season when Claire wento to see that Psychic... she was warned to keep the baby away from the United States or something didnt he say, or bad things would happen? Can anyone remember that exactly?

I wasn't surprised about Sawyer helping Kate, thinking that no matter who the child is, they are still innocent at this point... based on the comment he said to Kate, that years ago he wasn't ready to be a dad, or responsible, but he said to her "things change in 3 years".
