Better late than never, right? At least we got a brief return to the "classic" flashback, sort of, kind of. The character-based ones that the show started out on....
The Recap
FlashbacksYoung Sayid doesn't have any problem killing a chicken... Important(tm).
Alaina(?) is likely working for Widmore, as she suckers Sayid in and captures him. Leading to the handcuffs on the plane.
Ben "frees" Sayid from his duties as a killing machine, although Sayid doesn't seem to know what to do now....
He also lies to Sayid about Locke's death, claiming he was murdered as retribution for he and Sayid's actions....
On the IslandSayid and Ben continue to talk, leading to the inevitable "Did Richard send you?" question. Sayid learns of the story, and Ben agrees to help Sayid get "back to his people" if he'll take him too.
Horace takes Sayid to "Oldham", the resident DHARMA interrogation expert. "He's our you" in other words. He's drugged, and tells the whole story to Horace et al, with Sawyer cringing in the background. Of course nobody believes him.
DHARMA votes to kill Sayid, and Sawyer reluctantly agrees to keep his cover.
A burning van crashes into a house, causing a diversion so Sayid and Ben can escape.
On the road, they run into Jin, who stops them, and starts to report back.
Sayid knocks out Jin, grabs his gun, and reluctantly shoots Ben.
Sigh, I wish there was more to it. I can't help but feel things are being rushed along lately, I've probably said that before. Anyway.
SayidSo he finally realizes why he's back on the island. To kill Ben. Even though he claims not to be a killer, and he doesn't like it. He is what he is, and destiny once again rears its ugly head.
Wonder if anyone will realize that the drug-induced story is in fact the truth?
BenIs he dead? Argh, insert time-travel paradox theory here. Also have to love him lying to Sayid about Locke's death.
SawyerHe's really starting to piss me off, sorry guys. He's taking this whole DHARMA thing way too seriously methinks. He has his reasons, but still.
