This video is apparently the end result of the "Lost Experience" "Alternate Reality" game that's been going on since sometime last season. Being the 'not-giving-too-much-of-a-hoot' type about it, I haven't been paying attention to it... and then this...
If you're not interested in major SPOILAGE regarding the island and what is going on, do NOT watch this. Actually stop reading now because I'm going to hypothesize on it after the "fold."
OK, you're still here. A couple of things trouble me about this, some related to the plot of the show, some regarding the fate of the show itself, lets start there:
Pardon the allegory, but does this feel to anyone else like they've just "shot their load" a bit early? I mean in one six minute internet video they spill the beans (officially) on the meaning of the numbers, the purpose of the island, the purpose of the "others", the stations, and the entire f---ing experiment. What? What do you think you are doing?! Unless of course this is some kind of rouse and it's all meaningless.
I dunno, unless they pull some BIG rabbit out of their hat this upcoming season I feel it's all going to be a bit anti-climactic.
Regarding the plot, a couple of things come to mind. First, it still doesn't explain why the numbers seem to appear and re-appear everywhere, most notably with respect to Hurley and his pal (name escapes me) who first shared them with him... not to mention why they brought him such good fortune and bad luck all at the same time.
It also brings up another (well a few actually) question: Who was filming that video, where were they, and why it ended like it did.
And... The Hanso film being taped seemed to be itself a video transfer of a film reel, played on a 60's era TV set, yet filmed on a newer video camera.
There were also several key sections of the Hanso film that were conveniently fuzzed out or missing, related to the meaning of the equation and what would happen if it could be altered. As well as references to the time frame the film was made, "Only fuzzfuzz years ago..."
So where does this leave us for next season? I would assume that these same revelations will be made clear to the non-internet-obsessed viewing public in the already-known first half of the season... and that plot cycle will be canonically closed up then. At least I hope so. Maybe they'll answer the questions this video presents.
