1. How is The Staff too far/long to get to but the Arrow is the furthest point with at least hilly if not mountanous terrain if you go the other way?
2. There is a lot of information on the blast door map... some of this could be determined by exploration, other data could only be known through prior knowledge of DHARMA or discovery of explanatory documentation (i.e. "Stated Goal: De-territorialization of Ursus Maritimus...").
3. Each station has its entry point to the central station crossed out, indicating blocked... including The Staff, which has been stated as having incompatible travel time... so how does Kelvin know this?
Kelvin definitely isn't old-school Dharma, since he was in Sayid's flashback from Gulf War 1 back in '91 and the orientation/station vidoes are all 1980 or earlier. He must have joined later and gone to the island.
For those of you who have not seen the Hanso Exposed video on YouTube, here's a link:

There's a scene after the Dharma video where a bunch of guys in a warehouse are talking about innoculating the native population. I forget if they were wearing hazmat suits, but I wonder if Kelvin wasn't one of those guys, who then was assigned to keep the Swan station going. Based on what we know so far about each of the hatches, it seems like the Swan was the only one that really needed/warranted some kind of consistent monitoring. The rest that we have seen have fallen into disrepair and/or are abandoned.
